Reading Scales

This website has activities involving reading scales. There are six levels of difficulty and the hardest include negative numbers and decimals. The scales include linear, thermometers and a variety of dials.

Useful for whole class addition mental maths for use on an interactive whiteboard. Levels are carefully progressive from single digit addition to HTU and TU addition. It can improve mathematical vocabulary. The decimal addition options are faulty.

Useful place value teaching resources for use on an interactive whiteboard. They cover hundreds, tens and ones and UK money. With some you will need to drag the Dienes blocks to represent the number you want. Please note the decimals section is faulty.

A versatile number line that can be used at many different levels beginning at numbers 1 to 10 up to fractions, decimals and negative numbers. Place numbers on a number line and see how close you can get.

A place value game which will test your knowledge of digit values. There are 3 levels of difficulty which go from two to four decimal places. Note the currency is dollars but this does not mean the game is not useful in other currency areas.

Number Line helps students visualise number sequences and illustrate strategies for counting, comparing or the four operations. Number lines can be easily adapted with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, or negative numbers.

Flip Counter

A brilliant counting tool which displays numbers up to 99.999. It is excellent for demonstrating 1 more or less, 10 more or less or 100 more or less. It is also useful as a place value tool and there is an optional decimal point.
