Incubating the Eggs

Incubating the Eggs

The female Great Tit only settles down on her eggs to keep them warm when she has laid nearly all of them. There she will stay most of the time, both day and night. This is called incubation and this warmth from the mother's body makes the chicks begin to develop inside the eggs.

The reason she delays the incubation is because the chicks need to hatch out around the same time and leave the nest together.
